Left side of truck awaiting bolster pedestals. What CANNOT be seen is what is quite interesting: The arch bar shown (homemade?) is slightly taller than the journal box pedestals, requiring spacer shims on top of the pedestals, in order to fill the gap between the top of the pedestal, and the bottom of the arch bar. If the vertical bolts were to be tightened without the shims in place, everything would be under great stress, and also be warped far from its proper, straight, condition. Eventually, when the bolster pedestals were added, quite thick shims were needed to bring their tops up to level with the arch bar.
